FREAKY FRIDAY 7/2/2010

POWERSERGE!!

We will be serging together Take Five quilts and all the quilts will be donated to Stitches for A Cause. We are supplying all the fabric to make the tops and classroom sergers for those who do not have a serger. Space is limited but we do have a couple left. Hello sewing friends!!!

I am combining the Freaky Friday announcement with my weekly blog update, (I’ve been very busy scheduling classes, events and cutting fabric for the upcoming Strip Party…read on for details).

Another Friday is on its way and it’s going to be a hot one!! This week things are defiantly Freaky  because I will be doing NOTHING!!! Well …except for sewing! I have decided to sew all day this Friday. I am working on a new Barcelona Skirt. Jane and I have this awesome idea using one of our large Asian prints and an alternative to the standard hem.

I re-modeled the entire front of the store and YES I am very proud of my merchandising skills…stop by and help me pat myself on the back.

Next Friday for Freaky Friday we are having a Power Serge race for charity!

Sign up today, spaces are filling very fast for an extremely fun sewing day on your serger! Don’t worry if you do not have a serger we have a few here for you to use just make sure to call so we can hold a classroom serger for you. Now if you need to use one of our sergers you will need to come in at 9:30 for a quick, “how to” on the machine. All quilt tops will be donated to Stitches for a Cause, and there are prizes for the first three finished!

The race starts promptly at 10am. All kits are provided and all pieces (with the exception of the borders) are cut for you. All you have to do is pack up your serger and yourself for Freaky Friday Sewing Day!

Now on to our Strip Party!

No we will not have a pole…it’s a 2 ½” Strip Party! July 15^th – July 19^th you can come in and build your own Jellyrolls! Don’t settle for the pre-packaged Jellyrolls that have a few pieces you like…Pick only what YOU want in your pack. You can build a 25 strip pack or a 50 strip pack. We have been cutting up a lot of fabric, including Batiks and have much more to cut! The selection will be HUGE!!!

Batik Wide Back!!! – Very excited about the Batik Wide Back, with all those GREAT batik quilts I have seen these wide back fabrics are the perfect choice for the backing!

Button Bonanza – we ordered a few packs of these really fun buttons. Each package has a variety of sizes and the Summer Time collection has some great colors for all of you projects.

FINALLY…Jane was so kind to piece together the Island Breeze Table Runner I have been working on. It looks AWSOME!! Now all I have to do is quilt it and find someone to do the binding (I won’t do that part, it requires hand stitching and you all know how much I LOVE to hand stitch). I was able to get another project completed; I think this is my 3^rd project this year…I’m on a roll now!

This is the Village bag from Project Sewing Workshop. The bag is made of vinyl coated linen and can be purchased in a kit. There are two color ways available for the kits, mustard and plum. The kits are great! They come with all the fabric for the outside, lining, handles also includes the two zippers and magnetic snap. All packaged up in nice bag so you can store your pattern neatly for future use.

Now just for fun. Most of you have had the opportunity to meet two of my three children. Well the middle child is so busy I never get to see her! Here is a picture of her and her friend as they were getting ready for the 8^th grade dance. Saleste is on the left and she is ONLY 14! I can’t believe she looks so grown up!

Freaky Friday 6/11/2010

This Friday is PJ Day!!

Yes I will be in pj’s and slippers all day working on making a pair of pj’s for a friend that was a Christmas present LAST YEAR!!

Working with heavy fleece can be tedious at times but using the BERNINA #52 Sliding Sole foot can make working with fleece, plastic, leather, and vinyl coated fabric a BREEZE!! Hopefully I will be able to do some demos tomorrow using the 830 and the 52D foot….we will see how it goes :)
